After a rental lease is over do you have to sign a new lease?

Just finished a lease for a year on our house. The rental agency sent me a letter to sign a whole new lease for another whole year. After your first lease is over I thought it just went month to month. Do I have to sign this new lease? We plan on moving sometime before a whole year would be up. in NC by the way. After a rental lease is over do you have to sign a new lease?
Month-to-month is not automatic. It depends on whom you are leasing from and the terms of the lease. You might have to pay a few hundred bucks extra per month to go M to M.After a rental lease is over do you have to sign a new lease?
It depends on what the first lease said. Some state that after a year your lease will be month to month. If your first lease was only for 1 year, you will need to either move, or re-negotiate a new lease for a shorter time period. They may let you do that because it will be a lot cheaper than them having to go in your apartment, clean it, get new carper, paint, plus advertise for a new tenant. So call them up and negotiate your lease term.
unless the first lease explicitly stated that it would go month to month which doesn't seem the case since they sent you a new lease and u don't plan on living a whole year in this place ur only option is to ask for a shorter lease, and if they don't agree u'll have to either move or sign the lease and stay the year. but do read and compare the 1st lease with the new one .
Read the first lease you signed, usually they state what happens after the first lease expires, usually it's month to month, but it all depends on what you signed.
No, referr to your original lease agreement.
YOUR ONE YEAR LEASE AGREEMENT ONLY GIVES YOU THE RENTER THE RIGHT TO OCCUPY THE PROPERTY FOR ONE YEAR WHICH IS A SPECIFIC PERIOD OF TIME FOR A SPECIFIC AMOUNT.IF YOU PLAN TO MOVE I WOULD NOT SIGN A NEW ONE YEAR LEASE BUT,WOULD LOOK FOR A NEW LOCATION WITH A MONTH TO MONTH LEASE.
