Usually you can buy yourself out, 2 months rent is the customary amount. How to early termination for my rental lease due to going out of country for my mother's illness?
Ask the landlord. keep your cool. You can let him know you have a family illness and have to leave. Most decent landlords will let you out of the lease, but you may have to pay a months or so rent until it is rented again. Leave as little work for the landlord to do, so he can make the transition as quick and easy as possible. check your lease. It should be in there.

If you lose your cool, he can make things tougher, so work with him.
Understand first the landlord does not have to let you out of the lease. Explain the situation clearly, with minimum whining. He may just cut you loose- GET IT IN WRITING. If he hems and haws, offer to pay to advertise the place, or offer a cash bonus (say, from your deposit) to entice a new renter with a 'move in special.' Do what you can to minimize his monetary loss.

Although, if you lease ends April 2008, looks like your problem is already solved, yes?
Did you mean your lease ends April 2009?

You need to read your lease agreement. It should state what would be required to terminate your lease.
