There is a rental lease that I'm about to sign thats a monthly agreement (technically you can just give one month notice and leave)
My question though is what happens to the lease after I sign it? Is it stored in an online database or is it just between me and the landlord? What happens to the rental lease when I sign it?
Your lease should be just between you and your landlord. There is no need for it to be in any sort of database outside of the owner. The lease is for his info. The gov't here in Ontario requires a list of tenants for occupancy reports, for their own statistics on vacancy rates, etc. done on a yearly basis. Otherwise, no one should have access to your lease except for you and landlord. What happens to the rental lease when I sign it?
you need a copy right then, read the lease very carefully for even though its a month to month thus not legally bound for a period of time greater then a month, you do not want to go threw the whole move to only find out you have an unreasonable landlord, then charges late fees etc
also take pictures when you move in and when you leave in order to insure you get back your Security deposit
It's between you and the landlord. You should have received a copy of it for your records, and they will keep a copy of it for theirs. You always want to make sure you both have a copy, that way if there are any issues, you will know your rights according to the contract.
I have a copy and so does my landlord. Unless your are renting from a big company, I wouldn't think they would keep it in an online database.
There is no ';online database'; for apartment leases.
You get a copy and the landlord keeps the original
