What happens when you break your rental lease?

My husband and I are paying a rediculous amount of money for rent. It may not seem like a lot to some people but its a lot to us! Its about 10,000 a year. We have to re-sign our lease in a few days but we are planning to buy a house in the summer. What happens when you break your lease? Do they charge you for all the months left on your lease or what? Or do you just not get your security deposit back? Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!What happens when you break your rental lease?
it depends on the aptmt's rules.

when we broke the lease we had to pay one month's rent etc with no security deposit,,

and its the same with the other aptmt nearby ...What happens when you break your rental lease?
David is right on. Don't sign a year lease if you specifically plan on moving halfway through it.

Your lease is effective through the end of its term, or until the unit is re-rented. So you will be on the hook for rent until the landlord re-lets the unit, or your lease is over.

Get a shorter lease term, a month-to-month one if you can. Paying the extra now will save you a lot of money in the long run.
In most cases you just don't recieve your security deposit back. Since you're going to be resigning your lease in a few days.. why not ask for a month to month lease, sort of deal? Just tell them your situation--that you're planning on purchasing a house in the coming months %26amp; Im sure they'll totally understand! They should be able to just do a month to month deal. %26lt;3
Yeah they charge you for whole lease period. the will likely sue you in court to recover the rent.

Do not sign another 12 month lease if you intend to buy a house in summer.

Ask to go month to month or ask for a 3 month lease.
