On a rental lease and my roommate has left me with all rent... how do I get roommate off the lease w/o lndlrd?

We both signed the lease-roommate left leaving all belongings and past due rent. What do I- or can I do? I have tried to contact roommate but there has been no response.Its going on four months- roommate has come back from time to time but for no more than a couple of days. Don't remove your roommate from the lease, you want the landlord to be able to come after him too for the money, not just you. But in any event, try to find a new roommate and ask the landlord about changing the locks and tell him what is going on. The remedy lies with youand the landlord with the helpof a lawyer. If you so decide you can change the lock with the helpof the landlord.There should be no presumtion and youshouldspeakveryclearly to your room-mate and giving him proper idea you can proceed.
