Please, I need help with my new rental lease?

I just move into this place today. The landlord told me three weeks ago (after I paid first, last, and security) , the heater was broke and someone will fix it before I move in. Now, I just was told the place is deem unsafe and needs a new heater which can take weeks to get. I just had a new born on the 2/24 and I already give up my old place. What can I do?Please, I need help with my new rental lease?
Is it a gas leak or something like that? You can go to a hotel and stay there until it is fixed. Then you can recover all the costs of having to stay away. The problem with recovery is that you have to pay something out in order to recover and that might make things hard for you. You also then have to take him to small claims court if he won't reimburse you. Another headache.

I would let the landlord know that you will have to find an alternative place to stay and that he will be responsible for those costs. That might make him speed up. He can replace a furnace in one day. So light a fire under him, so to speak.

Look up the landlord/tenant laws in your area and print them out for him. If he can see it in black and white and knows that he will be liable, he might decide it would be prudent to get this done fast.

If it is too old to repair then he needs to replace it. When you rent a place, you expect that the heat will work. Things do go wrong and sometimes we can accomodate a short delay. But not for 3 weeks and not when you have a newborn. He can purchase a new furnace and have it installed in one day, as I mentioned. Most companies are used to emergency situations and they are prepared. It's too bad that it will cost him money but you have paid your part and it is his responsibility to ensure the place is fit to habitat.

If you can post the city where you live, we can help you find the laws in your area and see what else you might be able to do. If you don't want to, you can email me.Please, I need help with my new rental lease?
sounds like he should've told you there was a carbon monoxide issue before you signed the lease. Legality aside, and being someone who's been renting in downtown la the past few years, I would start with the classic heated conversation, and see if he is willing to work with you. Theres no excuse for a possible carbon monoxide leak, and since the baby adds significant leverage, he *should* step up his game and get the issue fixed. If he's one of those a**hole landlords, depending on wheather or not you can get a refund, you may want to speak to an attourney.
Go immediately to your city attorney(this may qualify as a felony?) or your county district attorney. They will help you file the legal paperwork, and very possible a fore closure on that crooked landlord! The lease will be broken immediately! I promise!
