You can't break a valid lease with ANY type of notice unless the lease provides for such in the written terms of the lease itself. Absent any language covering early termination, you are responsible for the rents involved until the landlord finds another suitable tenant to occupy the premises. You can be held liable for rents until this time, plus any expenses the landlord incurs in procuring a different tenant, including advertising expense, showing expenses, and repairs to return the unit to acceptable condition. How many days to give to break a rental lease on apartment?

Read your lease and focus on the section labeled, Termination Clause. It will spell out what you need to do if you break a lease early or in order to terminate your lease at the end. Most will claim that if you break the lease early you are responsible for the rent thru the end of the lease. READ CAREFULLY.
